MPTP subsidy changes

UPDATED 30/10/2020

There is good news for members of the Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP), which provides subsidised travel for people with accessibility and mobility needs.

While we are all being asked to stay at home as much as possible to stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), we know that members will sometimes have to make essential trips by commercial passenger vehicle.

To help members travel safely on these essential trips, the State Government has introduced some changes.

From 4 August 2020 (at 3am), the MPTP subsidy will increase from 50 per cent to 70 per cent. The subsidy will also apply to the full cost of any MPTP trip a member takes, including tolls and other charges. This increase will end 16 December 2020.

Please note that the $60 per trip limit and the individual (yearly) member cap remain unchanged.

Members do not have to do anything differently when booking a trip to get these benefits. They will be applied automatically.

When the increase ends, the subsidy members receive will return to 50 per cent – but this will apply to the total cost of each trip, including tolls and charges. That means members will still pay less than they did before 4 August.

In addition, extra cleaning resources are being given to drivers and booking service providers to maintain high cleaning and hygiene standards in the commercial passenger vehicles members use. Stricter cleaning rules will also be introduced.
