CPV industry cleaning laws

Cleaning regulations for the commercial passenger vehicle (CPV) industry are in effect from 18 November 2020. These laws reflect our previous coronavirus (COVID-19) advice to industry.

We know industry has worked hard to provide safe services during the pandemic. Your efforts are still needed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as Victoria opens up.

CPV drivers must clean with approved products throughout a shift. They must also keep a record of every time the vehicle is cleaned.

BSPs and vehicle owners who take bookings, or only take unbooked services must:

  • give drivers a way to record and submit cleaning records
  • keep cleaning records for 12 months.
  • take reasonable steps to support drivers with their responsibilities.

An approved hand sanitiser must also be available to passengers for every CPV trip that starts in Victoria.

Visit our vehicle cleaning FAQs for more information and resources. Or, read The Commercial Passenger Vehicle Industry Further Amendment Regulations 2020 .

On this page, you'll find information and resources for the commercial passenger industry to help stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

COVIDSafe plan

A COVIDSafe plan supports a business in the protection of its staff, customers and visitors during the coronavirus pandemic.

From 11:59pm on 13 September 2020, it is mandatory for every Victorian business to have a COVIDSafe plan. To ensure compliance, random spot checks are underway in metropolitan Melbourne and will commence in regional Victoria from 29 September 2020.

At minimum, a comprehensive COVIDSafe plan must set out:

  • your actions to help prevent the introduction of coronavirus (COVID-19) in your workplace
  • the type of face mask or personal protective equipment (PPE) required for your workforce
  • how you will prepare for, and respond to, a suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in your workplace.

This plan must demonstrate how you will meet all the requirements set out by the Victorian Government. Some higher-risk industries or workplaces have additional requirements of employers and employees.

Organisations with multiple worksites must complete a COVIDSafe plan for each worksite. Businesses must review and update their COVIDSafe plans routinely, especially when restrictions or public health advice changes. You can find information on who needs a COVIDSafe plan in our FAQs.
