The fast-tracked removal of the Camp Road level crossing in Campbellfield will kick off this weekend.
A rail closure on the Upfield Line this weekend will allow workers to begin preparing the area for major works to remove the level crossing by lowering the rail line into a 900 metre-long underpass.
The level crossing will be gone by early 2018.
The project will bring a host of benefits, including improved safety and traffic flow on one of Melbourne’s busiest east-west arterial roads, carrying about 20,000 vehicles a day.
Peak construction is planned for the end of the year, when both the Upfield line and Camp Road will be temporarily closed. Detours will be in place during this time and the project team will work to minimise disruptions where possible.
More details about these works and alternative travel routes will be available soon.
